Thank you for all your advice. I often hear about grit, is this available from garden centres and a special type. I have come across the chicken grit on Ebay. Is this the same type that everyone is using? You will find grit suitable for potting mixes in garden centres, usually labeled " Hortic...

Big cactus, nice flowers and please ID.

We have a tall (1.1m not including its pot !) cactus that flowers for 1 night per flower, last year it had 3 flowers from 5 buds (2 of them aborted prematurely). It was a short section from one that was cut down by a local garden centre about 25y ago. It had become too tall for their BIG! greenhouse...

Googling "Opuntia germination" throws up lots of variations.
