From the shape of the leaves and the flower I would suggest it to be Aloinopsis Rubrolineata. This has triangular cross-section leaves with the white spotting and red-lined flowers.

I agree completely. I have tried a number of different brands of J.I. over the past few years.Some have been indistinguishable from a peat based multi-purpose compost.
