Re: Lampranthus spectabilis

Another BCSS seed offering was D.eburneum, this time sown in 2004, So compared to the last species, this has lead a rather charmed life with me. It also first flowered in 2005, so perhaps it matures early! Again the plant is in a 6"clay pot(there for the last month) [attachment 3628 D.eburneum0...

Re: Lampranthus spectabilis

Hi Ian, It is around the 7" tall mark. It is now ( for the last month) growing in a 6" clay pot. It came from BCSS seed sown in 2002 - but it was bonsai'd for it's first 3yrs in it's sowing pot. Between then and now it has been in a 2.75" pot and it flowered last year [attachment 3624...

Re: A face only a mother could love

Looking at your pic, I can't help being reminded of 'the Beano' and Spotty from the Bash Street Kids! I have had my 'Rose of Texas' since september2001. Now a double header, but not yet flowered, so I still don't know if I was ripped off yet, cos it looks just like any other verruculosa - just a mor...

Re: Lampranthus spectabilis

The first buds of my D.hispidum opened yesterday. I wouldn't say they were anyway near a match for the size of the Lampranthus flowers. They are pretty though!

Re: Couple more flowers from today

Hi Phil, As you say, Zygocactus/Sclumbergia have zygomorphic flowers. I wasn't suggesting it was a hybrid with one of the Zygomorphic epiphytes. Some of the early hybrids available were between rosea and gaertneri and it did introduce a pinkiness to the Easter cactus flowers, which was a change from...

Re: Couple more flowers from today

Hi, Sorry to disagree with Mike T on the identity of your epiphyte, but the plant you show is not Rhipsalidopsis rosea/Hatiora rosea in any of it's guises. The picture you show is one of the hybrids/colour variants of the traditional 'Easter Cactus', Schlumbergia/Rhipsalidopsis/Hatiora gaertneri, wh...

Re: Aloe erensii x jucunda

Hi Lindsey, Did a little digging... literally ... and lifted the label out of my pot. Written below soil level was 'Ex P.Brandham'. So there you have it... Dr Peter Brandham of Kew did a lot of Aloe hybrids (I thought the Botanic gardens/experts frowned on that activity!). Apparently Abbeybrook cact...
