Re: EU Plant Passport Scheme

Malcolm mentions small personal stuff, but there are many of us who have built up collections of valuable plants over the years and seling overseas is one way to dispose of them when the time comes. I have sent a substantial money's worth of plants to France, Belgium and other countries over the pas...

Re: EU Plant Passport Scheme

Seems as though I made the decision to sell off my collection at the right time. It could be a complicated procedure in future. If I understand all this, selling or even donating a collection as part of a deceased person's estate could lead to paperwork and taxation, something the executor would not...

Re: SOS Cactus Help!

One for the bin I'm afraid. If it lives after extensive limb amputation it's going to look dreadful. It was fated to die due to that kitchen steam and window condensation.

Re: Top dressing?

I wouldn't top dress with cat litter as it will eventually turn green with algae. I do however, always top dress. it is essential to support newly potted plants in order to assist the roots to get a hold and that's what the dressing does. It is also invaluable in that it stops compost being washed a...

Re: EU Plant Passport Scheme

The regulations within the UK are formulated by DEFRA. The other agencies are enforcing them. The Plant Passport scheme has been extended to "some seeds". What I haven't seen is a list of seeds involved but I am sure that they will be "high risk" species and most likely to be se...

Re: EU Plant Passport Scheme

If I send plants to the EU as I have been doing in some quantity of late and use DPD to ship them, I have to declare what is in the box(es). If there is a problem with the delivery I would not be able to claim compensation if the contents are not what I stated on the booking form.

Re: Peter in Whitchurch

Thanks for the tip Suzanne. I would never had dreamt of asking for boxes in a pet food shop. At present I raid Tesco for their McCains French Fried potato boxes which are a useful size and strength, and yes, I have sent cacti to France in them. I found a roll of insulating wallpaper in my shed. This...

Re: Peter in Whitchurch

IMG_0015 (1).JPG UPDATE: It is just over two months since I started the dispersal of my collection and I've sold over 700 plants. This through a variety of methods including Ebay, this forum, the Mesemb show, word of mouth, etc. It does take a lot of work to dispose of a large greenhouse full of pl...

Re: Peter in Whitchurch

This is today's view of the contents of my greenhouse after 6 weeks or so of active and hectic selling. This with a view to emptying the place. Many hundreds of plants, possibly a thousand, have found new homes, mainly to visitors - such nice folk - some to Ebay purchasers and quite a few at the rec...
