Good new on BCSS membership figures

As at the 2nd February we have recruited 113 new members 5 up on the same period for last year. On renewals as at 31st January 2007, 157 more members had renewed their subscriptions than at the same point in 2006 and there were 21 more subscribers to Bradleya. Don't let this good start to the year m...

Re: Forum Size and Usage - Do we need to set limits?

The point about more messages making us more visible on the Search engines is very valid and is certainly a point for retaining as many messages as practical. Text takes up extremely little space anyway, the vast majority being taking up by pictures. These will only turn up in the search engines if ...

The Internet and the Cactus Hobby

A few of you may remember when the Internet burst on to the Cactus scene abot 12 years ago. I was an extremely early adopter being involved in the early documentation of the Internet. When I first joined it was with a 1200 baud modem and telephone calls at long distance rates. That taught you to be ...

Re: F&GP Committee

There will be many people involved in the review who are not part of the present structure. Indeed all members will be invited for their views later in this year. It is a pity so few members bother to turn up at the societies AGM when everyone is entitled to their say. Some people who are part of th...

Re: Forum Size and Usage - Do we need to set limits?

The BCSS is certainly going to get a fairly good return from gift aid money. Howver it takes time to actually prize the cash out of Mr Brown's sticky fingures and we have only so far retreived a fairly small amount in crisp green farthings. There should be more this year and it will prevent us from ...

Re: Garden Centres - good or bad?

If you find a display like this with artificial flowers on cacti that are not marked as such then the Garden Center is in contravention of the Trade description act and can be reported to trading standards. If you have the botlle try asking for the manager and tell him you are going to report this t...

Re: MSG bulletin ...

Frank sent the list of Belgian renewals through to us yesterday and the Bulletins were posted today. Fortunately mesemb seed is usually available in reasonable quantities so we don't run our all that quickly.

Re: Lost/Pruned Threads

Its actually a lot more complicated than that. I have given the full explanation to Chris. When we did the upgrade of the live system I made some wrong assumptions and by the time the problem was realised it was too complicated and risky to attempt recovery. Don't be fooled by offers of unlimited ba...

Re: F&GP Committee

The Yorkshire Cactus Society turned into the National Cactus Society and subsequently merged with the Cactus and Succulent Society of Great Britain just under 25 years ago to form the present BCSS. The F&GP name derives from the setup of Yorkshire Society and probably did have some 'trade union ...
