Re: Lithops sowing Solved

Here you can see the gravel I use as well as the shade netting to protect them. The containers I use is cat sand boxes. Each one has a hole in it pluged with a cork. I let the pots stand in about 1cm of water for the first 3 days and then I drain the water. From there on I mist from the top mostly b...

Lithops sowing Solved

Hi all. Our autumn is getting closer and now is the time for us to get our Lithops seeds in the pots. I planted some in spring and most of them are doing well. Our summers are just to hot for them te realy grow well. One mistake and all seedlings in a pot will turn white and die of overheating. :cry...

Re: Anyone with experience of growing Aloe ferox?

A. Ferox grow in all sorts of climates in nature. In the north of the Eastern Cape -5 to -8 and snow is not uncommon. For sure one of our hardiest aloes.

On the farm where I hunt in Queenstown they may dominate the veld. Stunning aloe spesie.

Re: Mesa Garden or Oz Lithops

Unfortunatly Frik does not sell a single seed to the local market and does not even speak to any one interested in Lithops.  We can at least buy back his seeds from over seas suppliers  We live in a crazy world   Are there any other Lithops seed dealers in South Africa...

Hi, For me, as you live in South Africa, I will choose Frik du Plooy. It's the best value for money. Jean-Pierre Unfortunatly Frik does not sell a single seed to the local market and does not even speak to any one interested in Lithops.  We can at least buy back his seeds from over se...

Re: My greenhouse/dry house.

How very interesting. In UK the temperature is around zero & when warmer there will be torrents of rain. The plants have nil hope without being enclosed with glass. We dream of not having to bubble wrap the greenhouse and use heaters and fans in winter. Good luck with your project. Brian I thou...

Re: Lithops, growing them hard.

After a week there is probably still some moisture in the soil. Are they exposed enough to get any dew? Or maybe just the outside looks wrinkly but there's lots of water left inside. Hi Iann, yes I agree. I also think that there may be little water left in the soil. I do use a very sandy mix with t...

Lithops, growing them hard.

I love to try and grow my Lithops hard. Well not as hard as nature.

Amazing to see how these wrinkles all disappear overnight without me watering them for more than a week.

Temp inside the hothouse in the shade at 38C and humidity at 30%.
