I top-dress all my plants because it looks nicer, keeps floating potting mix in place, keep some some insects from laying eggs in the soil and hold some plants in place. I keep a water schedule and/or looks under the pot for condensation and/or feel the wight on the pot to find out if it's time to w...

That's what I was thinking of as well, when I saw it at first!
The plant is looking weird as it is, with the "spiders" crawling out of the areoles, and now this :lolbt:

Oh, I'm sorry. I left that out :duh:

It's a Tephrocactus (Puna) bonnieae :)
