Re: Is Anacampseros alstonii self fertile ?
I can 100% confirm, same as iann, that Avonia quinaria are self-fertile. I've had seeds and good seedlings from single plant every year. They will not self-pollinate like other Avonias. You need to tickle them to get seed pods. But the seeds are plenty and viable. Thank you! I have duly tickled and...

Re: Is Anacampseros alstonii self fertile ?
I found this photo of Anacampseros vanthielii on the day that the fruit is revealed. All species are very similar, give or take the size of the fruit. vanthielii9.jpg On Avonias, you'll be left with something like these A. recurvata fruit, seed long gone. A. quinaria fruit are more compact with sho...

Re: Is Anacampseros alstonii self fertile ?
Did you get the September e-newsletter? (Mine arrived last Sunday). There was an article about this very plant (now A. quinaria) by Terry Smale. He explains that while most anacampseros/avonia species are self-fertile, this is one of the few that isn't, so you would need two plants to cross-pollina...

Re: Is Anacampseros alstonii self fertile ?
Yes, it is self-fertile. However, unlike many Avonias, it doesn't always set seed on its own. Even with help, it seems a little temperamental about when the pollen is ripe, so when you tickle make sure that the pollen is released freely. A good hot day, shortly before the flowers close, is the best...

Is Anacampseros alstonii self fertile ?
My Anacampseros alstonii (pink form) has made a lot of flowers this year (July/August), which I have attempted to pollinate. Since, the flowers have not dropped, but they don't seem to develop seed capsules either. Am I being too impatient, and how long would it take for seed capsules to develop? Or...

Thank you Henry, it's an amazing little plant. The "branches" move depending on atmospheric conditions which makes it entertaining as well.

Re: unstable
They look great. Bottom left is my favourite, it doesn't look natural but it has loads of character.

Avonia quinaria (or Anacampseros alstonii, both start with a "A")
