Re: My first cactus/lithops

All that's on the windowsill are my carnivorous plants, my two large opuntia and my more mature cacti. I can move them to a cooler room and can certainly avoid watering them. I think the average temperature in my room is around 25 degrees C dropping to probably 18 or so at night this time of year.

Re: My first cactus/lithops

Well I open the curtains about 7 - 8am each day and then they get light until it's dark. Is this likely to be enough for them or too little bearing in mind it gets dark around 4:30 now so only about 9 - 10 hrs a day, is this too little?

Re: My first cactus/lithops

Here's the rest of my collection, albeit rather small ;) In the first image, my opuntia ficus indica is looking rather sorry for itself having just had it's 5 prickly pears picked, I'm not sure if it'll ever grow anymore or not but here's hoping! My grafted cacti brighten up that corner of the room ...

Re: Seedling questions

That's similar to the method I've tried a few times although I haven't sterilised the soil beforehand I'll admit. Doesn't the condensation build up in the bag and the water droplets that drip off the bag onto the seedlings cause rot? That seems to be the sort of issue I've been having leaving them i...

Re: My first cactus/lithops

Bruce, how old is that Saguaro? I did manage to find a couple in the end but I'm wondering what kind of age they might be, they look around the same size as the one pictured or perhaps ever so slightly smaller.

Re: My first cactus/lithops
The problem with columnar cacti is that the young plants are sometimes quite different from the adult plants, making it more difficult to identify them with certainty.
I learnt that lesson well the other day, I paid a visit to a nursery wanting a saguaro and spent ages ...

Seedling questions

Thanks again for the rapid responses in my other post, as mentioned there I've also been having problems with seedlings, lots of problems in fact. I managed to wipe out about 3 propagators worth of seedlings (about 3 seedlings) over a period of around 3 months but I did manage to get my much more ne...

Re: My first cactus/lithops

Hi all, thanks for the replies so far, using Google images with the cacti names given they do seem to look like mine so I think you're all spot on with the names so far ;) Number 4 had 3 purple flowers back in the summer which seems to match up with the pics found on Google image search! Thanks to i...
