Re: Something special - "lantern flowers"

Dont worry Andreas once stapeliiformis starts flowering it just keeps going, I think my plant was in flower or bud for over a year now  . Mine was grown from seed and took about 20 years to produce the mature climbing growth that flowers, but cuttings from climbing stems carry on flowering, so ...

Re: Something special - "lantern flowers"

Hi Andreas
nice to see you back on the forum, and lovely ceropegias! I can only grow the ones that tolerate cooler temperatures, so have C. linearis ssp woodii and C stapeliiformis, so it is nice to see some others!
cheers

Re: Grafting

Someone's comment about Myrtillocactus not being hardy: they didn't mean 'outside hardy' - just that it needs warmer winter conditions than quite a lot of other cacti, so it's not much good in a greenhouse which gets down to (say) 5C. Ssh! dont say that so loud or my Myrtillocactus will notice that...

Re: Cleistocactus winteri ssp winteri & colademono

Nice plant Phil, I sowed seed of ssp colademono in spring 2009 (seed from Mesa Garden), and have just had the first flowers open on one of the two seedlings I kept. The other seedling hasnt shown buds so far. Like you I was suprised by the short spines when it was younger. http://i259.photobucket.co...

Re: Edithcolea again

Ha Ha, will bear your requests in mind if it gets evicted chaps! I did give the other seedlings away via the forum a couple of years ago, not sure who I sent them too now...hopefully they are doing ok. I guess this plant will outgrow its allotted space and end up as cuttings sometime in the f...

Re: Edithcolea again

Mine is fed and watered all year around. There is an old thread around somewhere about this plant but it seems to be easy to grow if it is kept warm enough, and not allowed to get dry for too long. Full sun suits it fine, at least as full sun as you can get on a windowsill... If you are growing it c...

Edithcolea again

My plant of Edithcolea was sown Christmas eve 2007, and has been growing like the clappers ever since, helped by a sunny windowsill in a room that never gets colder than 15C in the winter, and copious water. Now I have noticed these at the ends of some of the branches: http://i259.photobucket.com/al...

Re: Couple in flower

I read somewhere that you can sometimes self pollinate self incompatible flowers by carefully cutting off the stigma lobes and applying pollen to the cut style end, as the proteins that cause self incompatibility on the stigma surface are bypassed.
Woth a try but a bit fiddly I guess

Re: Methods of Control?

I have heard of some people using yellow sulphur which apparently acts as a miticide (usually used as a fungicide). I don't know if anyone on the forum has tried this? I use a fine dusting of yellow sulphur on my Fouquieria splendens to stop it getting colonized by Tetranychus in late summer, which...
