Re: Can anyone identify these succulents please?
I agree about the second, Kalanchoe pumila, this should grow into an attractive clump with pretty pale mauve flowers. The third one could be Pachyphytum oviferum and the last possibly a Graptopetalum. Sorry, I'm not sure about the other two. Thanks, really helpful. Just googled Kalanchoe Pumila and...

Re: Can anyone identify these succulents please?
Thank you all! (tu) They were bought in a batch from Ebay as reduced price plants in winter as they weren't good enough quality to sell full price. A couple arrived with mealy bug and most didn't look particularly happy. They went into quarantine in a separate room to the conservatory and were treat...

Can anyone identify these succulents please?
Hi, can anyone identify the names of these please? My husband bought them for me a while back but they arrived nameless. I think the second one is a kalanchoe but I'm not sure about the others. http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c44/alicekonash/P1020158_zpsx6aenbsj.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albu...

Re: Aloes from seed - optimum temperature?
Hi M. Not having any experience with Aloe seed, but been growing and germinating lots of stuff over 50 years I would have thought 30c to be high. This is over 85F, quite high in my opinion. Nearly every thing I germinate is around 70F, and I do not get many failures. I too use the Baggie method, bu...

Aloes from seed - optimum temperature?
Hi I've sown a couple of aloe varieties from seed in the past week using the baggie method. They're sitting in my south facing conservatory which today has reached 30 degrees! Do you think this might be too hot for them to start sprouting? The aloes I tried sowing last year completely failed so I'm ...

Re: Winter growth
Lovely isn't it? I enjoy my conservatory in the winter too, sometimes you can get a sneaky, warm sunbeam to sit in I think it gets a bit cold for some of the plants (my lemon tree shed all its leaves and the tradescantia are looking slightly worse for wear) but everything else is tiptop.

Re: Mesemb seedlings: sciarid flies and thrips
I had a real fungus gnat problem over the summer which was eradicated by putting the affected plants in quarantine in a separate room, covering the surface of the compost with grit and then watering in nematodes. For now I would say cover with grit to avoid the flies laying eggs and spreading and se...

Ah I saw these the other day and they made me smile; didn't realise the poor things had been mutilated!
