Re: Dry ice against mites?
There must be some way of making this work, using all the spare apples from my garden putting them in a deep container, with the plan. Fermentation will produce heavier than air CO2, and kill the mites (?) leaving only cider to dispose of as a by-product. Grow mushrooms. I have seen polyculture of ...

Re: ChemPak Trace Elements
We have to have exactly what nutrient is in each fertilizer as a percent. Say 20% N - from ammonium nitrate and a percent of each NH4 and NO3. They also list all the micronutrients. Is that the same on ChemPak fertilizers? Chempak do list them on the packets but they don't put the details online. T...

Re: ChemPak Trace Elements
I looked online for a few minutes for the label of ingredients but can't find one. Not sure if the UK does the same as the US with labeling. Re: Aloe polyphylla hybrids
I have enjoyed reading this and the polyphylla germination thread. My large one bloomed this year so I tried to self pollinate 3-4 flowers. Though I read that they are self-infertile. My plant generated 25 or so mature fruit with lots of seeds. I have an Aloe pratensis right next to it and the hummi...

Re: Jatropha podagrica from seed
My seed was free as it came from one of 2 plants I grew from seed a few years ago,
If germinating on the bench in May-July are you suggesting that it needs to be aged or that it's just warm?
I have access to a large propagation greenhouse so I think Ill give it a go
thanks
Peter

Re: Jatropha podagrica from seed
I managed to produce 6 seeds from one of my two plants. The seed is quite fresh and I was looking for suggestions on aging them or sowing now.

Re: Backup heating and power cut woes (long)
... you make a great suggestion to lower the heat loss by decreasing the effective height of the gh. Interestingly, when I had my greenhouse built, I was asked if I wanted a regular height one, or a tall one. I said I saw little benefit in the tall one, as I dont generally grow tall plants, and tha...

Re: Backup heating and power cut woes (long)
Hi Paul, glad you escaped direct storm damage. I know only too well the post storm search for glass and acrylic panes blown off during the nights. This is the to first time in about 28 years I'm committing a larger portion of my collection to the greenhouse., 12 X 8 X 3m high. I have no electricity...

Re: Substrate and re-potting
IMHO, one of the most important steps in using kitty litter or pumice or perlite or whatever you use for aeration is to sift it properly. I have found pumice to be the worst offender as its easily pulverized during transport. Sifted pumice is very expensive. I use a product called Turface (used on b...
