Re: Copiapoa Calderana ?Flowerbud
But how old was it when you got it Four inches should be big enough to flower. Only a couple of inches wide though? Should still be big enough.
very misleading that it is flowering now
I think we're getting somewhere! 13/18 for Brian No wait a moment, I've checked synonyms and I'll upgrade that to 14/18!
The other two are the wrong genus (unless you're Tom), neither is rare.

A little present
My sister gave me these today, fresh from the Canary Islands. Believe it or not, I don't have these three species!

Re: Would you like to read travelogue style articles in CW?
"Type locality" is the location for the plants given in the initial description. A plant name is not valid without a type locality, just one of many technical details which must be correct when describing a species. This should be the location where the type specimen deposited at the herba...

Re: Would you like to read travelogue style articles in CW?

Re: Saving water

There's a clue in there ;) Another clue would be that all except one of these plants are in the same family. The pot is a lightweight concrete cast stained with iron sulphate. I forget the exact concr...

Re: Saving water

Re: Another kind of Delosperma
Showground is waterlogged. I edited my show posting earlier but that apparently didn't bounce it to the top :( Light is gone and flowers are closing, I'm afraid Tom. I'll try to get a decent shot of the flower at the weekend. Not being 100% on the name I can't say for sure how big it will get but De...

6/16, Tom! Tricky without flowers and not quite enough detail on the capsules Perhaps the overhead angle doesn't help either?

Re: Mesemb seedlings
I fertilise fairly regularly with a balanced soluble fertiliser for the first year. Working on the principle that seedlings are growing and need plenty of nitrogen which is not so readily available from the soil.
