Re: Echinocereus

Re: Remedies against mealybugs - what do you think?

Can any of the stages of mealy life be identified here? EGGS. They hatch after about a fortnight. FIRST NYMPHAL INSTAR. 13 days of gorging ensue before it ends this stage by being covered in white wax. SECOND NYMPHAL INSTAR. ....so overfed that it couldn’t possibly move anywhere. These also last for...

Re: Remedies against mealybugs - what do you think?

I stand to be corrected, but I think that root mealies and stem mealies are different species (there is more than one species of stem mealy) that have all their stages within their respective environments. It is not that the youngsters start in the soil and migrate onto the stem as is implied in th...

Re: Remedies against mealybugs - what do you think?

It always seems to be the Echinocereus, Neoporteria that are the worst affected, which then affect the trays either side. Could it be the plants are prone to mealies, or is it the location in the GH that is the problem, or both? The two trays are half way down the left hand side. I do think that so...

Please post pictures of each stage of the build, always a good talking point on the forum and good advice and comment to any future builders. @ Darren ....And mug shots of all those Gnomes who paid a heavy price! We've since found two more of the b*ggers and a stone otter. My wife insists we don't ...

Re: Remedies against mealybugs - what do you think?

I've marked on in blue where the worst infestation always seems to be. Going down my GH from the LHS is (with associated genera near by) Notocactus, Mammillaria, Rebutia, Echinocereus, Neoporteria, Astrophytum/Ariocarpus. Echinopsis and Opuntia are across the back and Gymnocalycium are down most of ...

Re: Remedies against mealybugs - what do you think?

What tends to happen with me when taking my photos is the plants don't get returned to their proper place. They get left propped across a few trays. Decided this morning to have a tidy up and put plants back in their correct location. Shuffling pots around to get them back in I've found quite a lot ...
