Re: The first of many

Good luck with the repotting! Mine is now closer to 2 metres and has always had two main stems. I prepared the bigger pot, with a recess in the new compost exactly matching the old pot, then having let the old compost dry out completely so it would lift easily from old pot, with thick gloves and a s...

Re: Beschorneria

I don't know how big it gets. I guess this is about the size that rosettes get before flowering!
I'm also assuming the main rosette will die after flowering like Agaves, but there are now some small offshoots forming at the base to keep it going...

Beschorneria

Does anyone else grow Beschorneria?
This has been in an unheated greenhouse all winter, and has decided to flower, which is a first for me. About 1m tall so far. Very pleased!

The first of many

Looks like I'm in for a good number of flowers this year on my Cleistocactus strausii.
The flowers are certainly odd, but are great to see. I wonder what pollinates these, birds perhaps?

Rebutia marsoneri?

These two are from BCSS seed of two years ago that was listed as 'Rebutia aff. marsoneri'.
Is there any reason to believe they are anything other than R. marsoneri?

Re: Birthday cactus

Another factor is they may be grown in an atmosphere containing raised levels of bud-initiation chemicals... Helps sell the plants...

Re: Weingartia winter care

Just to complete the tally - the Weingartia lanata produced 161 flowers in total in 2020, and is now taking a well deserved rest!
If anyone's looking at seed lists for winter/spring sowing I recommend putting a Weingartia or two in your order!

Another Ariocarpus

A few days ago I posted a photo of A. hintonii flowering for the first time from seed. I'm even more amazed by this one also flowering now for the first time. Also from seed, always on its own roots, and I think ten years old, A retusus. Two days ago there weren't even any buds visible. Very chuffed...

Re: Late flowers

Well spotted. I've no idea why I wrote Matucana rather than Weingartia. An attack of the Friday afternoons perhaps.
