Late flowers
Pleased to see a surprising amount of colour still in the greenhouse from cactus flowers, even in the 2nd half of October. 20201011_113636[1].jpg Lobivia sp. 20201011_113643_HDR[1].jpg Matucana pruinosa 20201011_113701[1].jpg Hildewintera colademonensis 20201011_115252[1].jpg A very venerable Mammil...

Re: At last, after 8 years
I'm the wrong person to give advice on Ariocarpus! But this year in frustration at their lack of flowers I gave them probably three times as much water in the summer as before...

At last, after 8 years
Maybe I'm finally getting the hang of Ariocarpus.
A welcome splash of colour in the greenhouse, and flowering today for the first time, over eight years from seed (on own roots): Ariocarpus fissuratus hintonii. Mike

Re: Mediolobivia Solved
Isn't it possible for a species simply to exist in one place in a number of similar forms but without a complete range of intermediaries? If I remember schoolboy genetics red and white flowered peas of the same species when crossed give red and white offspring, not a range of shades of pink.

Blooms tonight once more
Looking shiny and so well
Has it swelled with pride?

Re: Not quite sure why I bother!
Perhaps I should have titled the thread 'Ode to a Conophytum'

Not quite sure why I bother!
This is a ten+ year-old Conophytum acutum.
It's never had more than one pair of leaves.
It open opens its one flower/year at night.
It smells unpleasant.
Still, it doesn't take up much bench space! Mike

Re: Candy-stripe Matucana mystery
I'm hoping someone (Graham Charles?) will produce a book on Matucans before too long. I'm liking them more all the time!

Re: Candy-stripe Matucana mystery
Thank you Phil, that does shed some light.
I see ADBLPS is listing "huagalensis fleurs crémes
[DH 875/95 pro parte1]" which I suspect may be still the same seed source.
I'll keep that name on the label, although there's little online to compare the plant with.
