seems to work fine for ephiphytic orchids such as phals.
Only concern is how much moisture algae will retain but they probably will die considering how dry we keep oiur specific type of plants.

Re: Can succulents be planted in plastic cups?

They can be planted but might not survive! Roots might not like the light coming through the sides and most plants would appreciate some drainage holes to let water out and air in. However I do have some plants in glass containers (rescued from Tesco) and the clear sides do mean you can see if ther...

Re: Need advice on greenhouse setup

Yep thanks Bill this is not a standard deck but a deck built with the legs sitting on a concrete base and concrete blocks support it like bricks on all four ends. The wood is the best you could buy and is dip treated for 72 hours with wood preservative. Hopefully all this can help it stand up for a ...

Re: Need advice on greenhouse setup

Good advice all, that I am getting this bigger greenhouse for free and if i decide that this is my permanent place then I will rip the deck apart. Electric heating is on the table then. Hopefully it can last me at least 1 winter..... In fact I can't even move my plants out till April because I have ...

Re: Need advice on greenhouse setup

The greenhouse will need fixing to the decking, either directly, or a base fixed to the decking and the GH fixed to the base. Where the decking has base/GH fixed, it will tend to remain wet for prolonged periods after rain/snow, and will rot much faster than if having free airflow around it. Much b...

Re: Need advice on greenhouse setup

Hi, I would have thought the decking would be lethal for walking on when wet? Slippery. Would you put something down on decking to avoid breaking your neck? Not sure what. I'm sure there will be more difficulties. Could you not remove decking and concrete the base? Trying to go about it the least d...

Need advice on greenhouse setup

Hello all, So I am in a position where I need to move the location of all my plants from indoor to outdoor, they have been living forever under 1000W grow lights all year long. Now the only location available to me is to put it on top of my deck (an 8x6 glass greenhouse aluminum frame) and run gas h...

Re: Gardeners' World grit

It is not limestone, you need something inert that does not dissolve or affect pH.
Crushed quartz will be exactly what you need.

Re: That old chestnut, limestone, and South America

Just because a cactus grew in limestone does not mean they need limestone in the mix to grow, in fact some studies I came across indicated that limestone was an inhibitor to the growth and they did better without them.
