Re: Succulent ID
Thanks Tony. So it’s an iPad issue? That explains why it hasn’t happened before. Best not to try and save time by sending it from the new toy!

Re: Succulent ID
Ps I turned them around before posting but oddly they still seem to reverted to landscape format.

Re: Succulent ID
Indeed, that is the symptom.

Re: Succulent ID
And presumably no amount of seeking after answers on the interweb will find a fix?

Re: Succulent ID
We know all about it.
Jim Mercer did some good experiments, documented in the Photography section entitled Image Rotation Test part 4, 3, 2, 1. .......

Re: Succulent ID
This thread suggests either a small change to the plupload.php file or an update of plupload to v2.3.6 can fix the image orientation problem in phpBB: https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... &t=2429206

Re: Succulent ID
I just love technology.
Anyway I think the images, landscape or portrait, confirm the Id of the plants. The arborescens needs repotting and has barely grown this year.

Re: Succulent ID
The orientation of the image depends upon whether the recording device knows or records which way is "up". Older or less sophisticated devices don't have the capability .... and in newer devices can be turned off ... or by lack of knowledge not switched on or overridden. This orientation information is written as a simple one line instruction into the file called the EXIF which sits inside the image file. Your digital photo file is made from a text file PLUS the data from the camera sensor. If you have the skills you can read the text data using a text editor. The information about the lens and camera and settings and location plus loads of other stuff like your copyright are written in an internationally agreed format file structure. The information always accompanies the image data. When you edit the image file you add to the text data but trying to edit the EXIF alone to change it can have catastrophic effects resulting in a corrupted and unreadable image. Proper image editing apps add other text data files to the image file as "sidecar files" containing your edits such as cropping and hue and saturation change. An image file is much much more than the information from the sensor alone. If you rotate the image in Windows Explorer or the MAC equivalent you only write to the data file in the directory ie how and where the file is stored and displayed on the computer. The app sitting behind the upload to a website doesn't necessarily interrogate all of the text data files unless YOU tell it to do so. The "only way is up" has to be specified and is not automatically generated. Use an image processing app ... and it gets it all done for you .... including the file size ... which for most websites is within the range of about 2000 px by 2000 px ..... 2Mb ..... 72 to 96 ppi
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.

Re: Succulent ID
Agreed, el48tel, thanks.
Within your paragraph above:
"... Use an image processing app..."
This is what the users should be doing, as has been said all along.
