Can these be grown outdoors all year long? Or do they not like being wet and cold.

I grew it here a long time ago but it didn't ever really get going and rotted away one mild winter. I tried again with the same result. I wonder if it might do better in a covered bed and kept completely dry. Then again, there are far more choice plants to consider if doing that IMO.

I lost all mine during the very cold winters (is it 6-7 years ago now?). Most of my other Opuntias survived. They were in an unheated greenhouse and dry at the root.

Based on that I couldn't see them surviving outdoors in the UK.

here is a subulata with the flowering stems hanging (Italy Bordighera near the jardino exotico Pallanca)
need sun drought and old plants to flower (here in the south of Europe)
