Adeniums regular roots pruning

Post by Josse »

Well, as most of you adenium growers might know, you sometimes have to prune the adenium roots.
Even when roots tend to go down through the bottom holes and literally imbalance the pot by the mass of roots under.
One another reason to do so is that you can give the plant very desirable impulse to the start of the new and more vigorous growth.
I do it every February/March, just at the onset of the new season.

The pictures below are from the last pruning this year.
The first one is a fat guy A.somalense var.nova
followed by "common" A.obesum below.

Bottom of the pot. You can see the mass of roots going through the drain hole.

Hi Josse
I would never dream of doing such a serious cut to any of my adeniums (big coward) & they aren't half as nice as yours.
How do you treat the cuts & do you supply bottom heat ??, I suppose this is soemthing I should think about as some of mine are now in 7" or 8" square pots & I don't want to give them anymore space.

What temp do you keep these at ?, as mine lose all there leaves in the winter
