Here's one, Frithia humilis. Quite late, it hardly opened a flower in August.

And another, Pleiospilos compactus, this morning.

Frithia are always flowering at this time of year for me. They don't get started before mid June at the earliest!

Strangely enough... this is flowering for me this week!

I say strangely - that is strangely for P.nelii - s.l. - but anything seems to go for cv Royal Flush!

Incidentally, this is the first time I have been able to get a decent shot. All other flowerings have either been faded when returning from work or snapped on a compact in the greenhouse due to lack of time. I have 4 plants. 3 from MSG seed sown in 2004 which are all flowering size, but never oblige at the same time. This plant is the only double header.

Isn't it a super plant, Brian! The flowers are quite stunning - although I can't see any buds on mine at the moment. I have had them in flower at this time of year too. I've also found them to be self-fertile, so give yours a tickle and see if it will oblige!

That is very true Diane and I have had seed and capsules in the past from self-pollination, but resulting seedlings were very weak and never lasted long. I was putting it down to too much in-breeding :?: Perhaps getting two individuals to cooperate might produce stronger offspring, otherwise I might be tempted to input a bit of pure nelii to bolster it up

F. humilis is usually a month or even two behind F. pulchra, but not getting any flowers until the second half of August is still late. No pretty pink Pleiospilos flowers here so far this year, but how about a sticky Namibian?

A nice thing about Pleiospilos is that they often produce multiple flowers from each head. I think three is the max.

I'm looking forward to seeing many more Mesembs at the specialist shows coming soon. The biennial Mesemb Study Group show in S London has over 50 classes (and a even couple for Mesemb photographs). There are often many unusual succulents for sale: http://www.bcss.org.uk/foruma/viewtopic ... 2&t=156684

The Bristol show has one third of the classes for Mesembs: http://www.bcss.org.uk/foruma/viewtopic ... 2&t=156334

I can't find a Forum advert yet for the North West Mesemb Show in Manchester, but it is coming on Sat. October 13th: http://www.manchester.bcss.org.uk/index ... s-for-2012

Best wishes,
