Trim or not

Post by Tina »

Hi all
This is a large Euphorbia micrantha that I purchased early this year, it has a mass of scarring from RSM damage- you would think with the toxic sap it would be immune, this EUphorbia isn't fast growing as I have a couple of three year old plants that are small but it's badly damaged n UGLY.

1.Do I leave it & wait years for the arms to be replaced
OR
2.get the scalpel to it & chop off most of the arms, will it speed up growth/replacement or wot.

Any suggestions although I am leaning towards ~THE CHOP~ as it can't spend the next several years under a paperbag.

Agree with Diane Tina, but in the spring and root the cuttings in Cat Litter.

Geoff
I didn't think the arms would grow decent little caudexes- have you experience of rooting the arms ?- I was just going to bin them.

The arms will root, and form caudex - Sachi,Mcfarland, repeats a method he has read about but clearly not had any experience of. I'd like to see examples of the method? Lopp them all off, new stems will grow out very quickly - but as someone said wait until spring - unless you have heat and light now. I'd be happy with the cuttings

Hi all
Sometimes what you find when it's a reroot & not seed grown is the caudex won't grow symetrical & with a hedytoides it means lots of large fingers instead of a nice round lump.
I think it will be the scalpel but maybe wait until next yr, not sure that I would want 30 more of these when I already have three I'm trying to reduce all the extra's I grow.
