After 12 years my Haageocereus has decided it's time to flower.
Had never seen a Haageocereus in flower before so it was quite exciting to see it developing.
Can anyone put a name to it? Only one that I can come up with is "acranthus"
My Haageocereus has flowered!!! Sp ID?

I don't know what it is Neil but it is rather nice, well done on flowering it.

I'm not much use either, although it is stunning. Wondered if it might be alibispinus?

Re Haageocereus IDs: you all need to read Bradleya 25, 2007, where a monograph of the genus is published.
Cheers,

Colin - could you not even enlighten us? Who on earth reads Bradleya? Or maybe look at the pictures!

Great flower, Neil, well done - I'm still waiting! Looks just like my Haageocereus acranthus subsp. olowinskianus.

Re: My Haageocereus has flowered!!! Sp ID?
Thanks for the responses.
Tony - I think you are spot on.
Doesn't seem to be a lot of info on this genus (that I can find). I was trying to find out how it is pollinated and it was suggested (on Google) that bats or moths were the best bet but this has not been observed.
Unless someone knows different!

Re: My Haageocereus has flowered!!! Sp ID?
Hi Neil
Don't think it is acanthus/olowinskianus, albispina maybe but I have not seen one in flower.
The link Tony put up H. pseudomelanostele looks right by the flower, if the name is right? I seem to remember it with darker longer spines, but Haageocereus do have a habit of throwing a group of longer spines out for no apparent reason.
I can't help with the flower ID. because the only Haageocereus in the greenhouse in flower is H. decumbens and that has a "Borzicactus " flower, or is it Loxanthocereus.
Where is a copy of Bradleya 25 when you need one

Although the photo file name is labelled as pseudomelanostele, the caption on the associated web page id's it as acanthus/olowinskianus. Spination and colour matches my olowinskianus which is clone OST 82020.RAYWOODBRIDGE wrote:Hi Neil. Don't think it is acanthus/olowinskianus, albispina maybe but I have not seen one in flower.
