Re: would Lithops grow on Tufa Rock?
Think I will have to buy some plants and give it a go. Is now a good time of year ok to be planting them?
Re: would Lithops grow on Tufa Rock?
If you want to have a go then try Lithops julii ssp. fulleri. This always seems to occur where there is calcrete (a soft type of limestone) in with the quartz in the patches where it grows. I have seen it growing within 100 metres of L. olivacea with olivacea inhabiting the quartz without calcrete and fulleri in the calcrete alongside Titanopsis hugo-schlechteri (most titanopsis like calcrete too). It would be worth checking Des Cole's book to find the other lithops that enjoy calcrete.

Check the online nurseries lists on Cactus Mall. No problems ordering within the UK or from EU countries, but hard from countries from outside EU:-

Re: would Lithops grow on Tufa Rock?
The UK is a bit short on good Lithops sources these days, although there are a few smaller sellers or non-specialists. Does Gordon Foster still sell? I know he doesn't do online, but used to be at all the shows.
I often have extra Lithops. Not var brunnea though. Strangely var brunnea isn't found on calcrete at its only known location, but is almost indistinguishable from var fulleri which often is. No doubt other small growers will a few plants. Otherwise big sellers like Easy Cactus or continental nurseries.

Re: would Lithops grow on Tufa Rock?
I went to Gordon Fosters open day this year and he had a lot of Lithops and was selling, but he did not have a lot of cacti for sale at the time. His web site is a bit out of date, but you could always write or ring him to see if he has Lithops for sale at the moment:-

He is down for the Spalding Cactus Mart next year, so still selling:-

That Titanopsis hugo-schlechteri looks interesting. So I've just bid on one on E-Bay
