I've waited a long time for this - RESULT

Post by rodsmith »

I grew this cactus, which I have always taken to be Trichocereus spachianus (now I believe Echinopsis spachiana), from a packet of mixed seed sown in 1975. That makes it 40 years old this month. It has always been a slow grower but in 2010 it rotted from the base and I managed to save the top 3 inches and re-root it. Since then it has doubled its height and thrown up two offshoots. Today, to my delight, I discovered a flower bud. I know they take a long time, but 40 years! I hope it will be worth the wait when it eventually opens.

There is a quote that goes something like " time and tides wait for no man" - here is another great example of how long we wait sometimes in this hobby

Not long to wait now, I think.

What a beautiful coloured bud. And hairy too, love it.
