Not Lithops 'Green Diamond' ?

Post by MALACHIT »

Hallo,

I have some doubts, this plant looks like 'Sulphurea' for me.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lithops-herme ... 5b1790f382

Lithops hermeitica 'Green Diamond' is hard to get, and there is only two photos in the net:
http://www.lithops.info/de/galerie/lithops_c397a.html
and:
http://lithopsforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=97

Viele Grüße aus Berlin

I don't have 'Green Diamond' for direct comparison, but other than colour it shouldn't be dramatically different from the normal species. This plant is dramatically different from L. hermetica.

This offer is discussed already several times on several fora. It is bullshit as are many others on Ebay.

Hallo,

these plants were offered several times and reached high prices. Obviously not everybody knows this forum
This seller does not know Lithops well. But his plants look good.
He once also had 'Green Ivory', but I think, there will be no more offers. At Matk`s nursery in Berlin are no more plants left.

Viele herzliche Grüße aus Berlin,

I have two pots of 'Green Diamond' seedlings. One from a 2014 sowing and one from 2015. Both from Mesemb Study Group seedlists.

Interesting because the above photo shows plants that do look like greenies. In the last few years the MSG has offered seed of L. hermetica C397 that has come directly from the Coles under the numbers 2897 (2014), 2997 (2015) and 3108 (2016). Only for the batch offered this year did the Coles indicate that the seeds should contain some 'Green Diamond'. However it looks as though the earlier batches might have contained some too. I would be interested in hearing other reports about these seed batches.

I had some of the seeds from the MSG in 2015 that says "should be some Green Diamond". The seedlings are looking good at the moment but am looking forward to new bodies next spring. Will hopefully have several G D.

I sowed some of those. Very smooth shiny seedlings. None stand out as green cultivars but they are certainly a different colour from the adults I have and the seedlings I have from those, which are browner and more textured. Time will tell.
