This Cleistocactus sp. was out in the greenhouse yesterday - cracker - first time it had flowered. Anyone like to give it a proper name - for the record I don't know what species it is.

I don't know what species it is either.

It's very beautiful.

HI Chris,

I agree that the stem looks like a Cleistocactus, but the flower does not. Flowers on Cleistocactus are cleistogamous usually.

I think this may be a Hildewinteria (Hildewinteria x Cleistocactus possibly) hybrid of which a number are being created now and are very floriferous.

I'm not familiar with the species but photos I've seen of Cleistocactus [Borzicactus] longiserpens look a bit like that. Tentative suggestion only, though.

I agree, Phil - I do grow longiserpens subsp. erectus - it has not flowered for me, but Fig. 21 Page 10 of Bradleya 28 (2010) is certainly a close likeness.
