Graham Walker has been informed of the death of one of the Fellows of the BCSS - Tom Lavender
"One of our members found this obituary in our local evening paper today
LAVENDER TOM Late of Billingham and Tioxide U.K. Haverton Hill. Suddenly on April 19 in Tetney, Grimsby.
A devoted and much loved husband of Agnes (nee Wood) brother-in-law of Lily, Ian, Ruth and the late Ted, Reg and Betty, loved by all nieces and nephews. Service in St. Cuthbert's Church, Billingham on Tuesday, May 17 at 1.30p.m. prior to cremation in St. Bede's Chapel, Teesside Crematorium. Family flowers only, donations in lieu to The Alzheimer's Society."
Tom was one of the "Elder Statesmen" of first the NCSS and later the BCSS. He became a Fellow in 1977, was a Life Member, served for many years on the Finance & General Purposes Committee, was a judge, speaker, member of the Shows Committee and could always be relied upon to give sound advice both on plants and on procedures.
Another sad loss.
