Gymno id required please

Post by Hedge »

Here is a Gymnocalycium for which I have lost the label. I think it was multi something, but as it has finally flowered I thought I'd ask the more knowledgeable to comment. It's in a 3ins square pot.

Multiflorum that was it - so is it called monvillei now, or is that different? It is scented, by the way.

You can take the boy out of the greenhouse, but you can't take the greenhouse out of the boy!

G. Multiflorum is an old (1845) name for the description of a single habitat plant in a collection in Stockwell, London.

The older (1838) name is G. Monvillei and so has precedence. (Information from G. Charles' excellent book.)

Your plant looks just like the Monvillei I have in my collection. I particularly like the pinkish tinge on the flowers - Gymno flowers are NOT boring!
