Those fuzzy balls
I occasionally see these white fuzzy balls that look frighteningly like root mealies, but aren't. Does anyone know what they are? More specifically than "some sort of fungus". Not a brilliant photo, I'm afraid, but probably other people have seen the same thing.

Yes, I have seen these but can only recall them being associated with roots of some species.

It could be a fungus, quite harmless, as I found out in this thread from earlier this year:

Hi Iann ; when I have found it on cacti roots the plants do not seemed to have suffered, and I wonder if it is a biosemiotic fungus similar to the one we apply to fruit tree or rose bush roots before we plant them.
