Echinopsis from the Cactus-Shop
I rarely visit the south-west these days, but managed two visits to the Cactus Shop, in June 2015 and April 2016.
Here are some images of three plants obtained there this summer (plus a spectacular from 2015). (More to follow)
The yellow and orange flowered plants are unnamed (by Ralph) Cactus Shop hybrids. I've named the orange one 'Ralph's Golden' as it is particularly attractive.
I was told that Tom Martin was a long standing official of the local BCSS branch who passed away recently. He named this hybrid of his after himself because he liked the flower very much. (Not large - 7cm - but very delicate petals with subtle pastel colouring - better than my photo).
Ralph Northcott is of the opinion that (Tricho) Echinopsis hybrid 'Nita' is probably his very finest creation. The flowers here are about 12cm across (each)!
Incidentally, my "avatar" is a lovely unnamed Cactus Shop Echinopsis hybrid I bought online in 2012.

I think I may need to send Ralph an email regarding a Nita, they're all nice but that's stunning.

Strictly very limited availability. I struck lucky last year when there were four in June at £10 each in 9/10cm pots including one in bud. He has a "waiting" list. There were none on the sales bench at the beginning of May this year.

Fantastic flowers
You can take the boy out of the greenhouse, but you can't take the greenhouse out of the boy!

Re: Echinopsis from the Cactus-Shop
Plant cultivars are denoted by single quotes e.g. 'Ralph's Golden'. There are agreed quality procedures for naming new cultivars (ICNCP).
Please can you give us a reference to where you have formally named these Echinopsis cultivars? How do you know these have not been named before? What are the distinguishing features, so other people can tell if they already have one?
Best wishes,
Derek Tribble,
Harrow Branch

Re: Echinopsis from the Cactus-Shop
My error Derek. I'll replace all double quotes.
Nita is named by Ralph. Tom Martin named his own plant - Ralph may have more information. Ralph's Gold is purely a name I gave (as I stated above)for my own convenience. I can delete that if you think I should.
Does that mean it is not allowed to give names to hybrids at all unless ICNCP procedures are adhered to?
Is a list of registered cactus cultivars published online?
Edit: I can't correct the first post, the edit button has gone!
