Agave Parrasana woken up at last

Post by agavedave »

My parrasana has finally woken up after being dormant since last August. Yes last August!
I was beginning to think that the stalk had died off and considered giving it the chop.

I noticed at the weekend that the bracts towards the top had started to open up and the spacing increased a little.

Best Regards
Dave.

This explains why it stalled. A flower bud, exciting and sad at the same time. It's the end of this plant but you may get seed and should get offsets forming round the bottom of the plant, anything up to a year after the flower is finished. Look at it as a new chapter in the life of your plant and beyond.

This plant started to push up the stalk late July 2015 and by the end of August had given up until recently. I'm not sure if it's the warmer temperature that has started it off again or if it has been quietly building up enough energy for the final push. August/September last year was fairly warm though.

Best Regards
Dave

Your Agave looks beautiful and all the others are looking very good too. You have quite a collection, which you should be proud of.

10th August 2016

I thought it was up to something Monday night when a couple of flowers started to loose their red tint and turn from green to more yellow.
