Label says this plant 'is' pyrrhocactus vertongenii:
Anyone has different opinion than the label? With suggested name please, not only 'I do'
P.S. Don't pay too much attention at elongation please, it's been grafted on pereskiopsis which probably pushed it more to height than width...

To be honest Dave, copiapoa was my thought too. But I doubt seed seller has mixed seed that badly... Thats why I hope someone here might help.
My vertongenii doesn't look like yours, and unless he is a bit different form, or will look more like yours when he gets older I might have doubts about that one too. Here he is:

Why is it grafted?
You can take the boy out of the greenhouse, but you can't take the greenhouse out of the boy!

Re: Pyrrhocactus dilemma...
'''Another''' Copiapoa? Dave's photo is a typical appearance for P. vertongenii, although I too question why anyone would graft this relatively easy plant. It doesn't generally pup, although pretty much any cactus can form a double-header from seed very occasionally.AnTTun wrote:To be honest Dave, copiapoa was my thought too. Iann, I had more than 20 of them rot in a blink of an eye after I've rooted them. Those few that didn't still struggle to.. I don't know what, they don't grow, or do it way too slowly. Thats why I've regrafted a few on opuntioid stock. But we're moving away from subject... Is tall guy a pyrrho or not?

Re: Pyrrhocactus dilemma...
Difficult to say because of the grafting. But to me it looks more like a Copiapoa than Pyrrhocactus.
Re: Pyrrhocactus dilemma...
I guess I'll have to wait 'few' more years untill it flowers Thank you all

Should have said my P. vertongenii pictured is also grafted. It came from Graham Charles originally.
