The sun was catching these flower spikes

Post by Paul in Essex »

.. so I lent out of the upstairs loo window and snapped a couple of pics.

Agave striata. This is the third time this particular 'clump' has flowered.

Very jealous to know another person has an Agave flowering. I'm still waiting for mine to do this. These are the Agave flowers I really like. Do these bend over like A attenuata or stay upright?
Obsessive Crassulaceae lover, especially Aeoniums but also grow, Aloes, Agaves, Haworthias and a select number of Cacti.

Tina - I'll dig out some more pics when I have a chance. Maybe even some non-succulent places!

Liz - Agave striata is a ground dweller so they stay bolt upright - it is usually only the cliff dwellers that have arching inflorescences and, even then, not always. But, yes I agree, the 'foxtail' inflorescence half of the agave family are very attractive when in flower.

Fabulous! I look forward to seeing it on GW. Impossible to do this in Wales...
Mainly cacti, with a preference for Mexican ones, but I'm flexible!

These are views of your garden I've never seen before, Paul. Really nice, and makes me wish that I had the space to do something similar. But, having said that, I look out of my window and can see another reason why it might not work down here falling out of the sky as I write...
