Rebutia Muscula

Post by cactuspip »

My Rebutia Muscula has decided it is not November, but July.
It has had a single flower open now for over 2 weeks now. The photograph was taken a week ago, but the flower is still open.

Lovely, Phil. Perhaps it is flowering in sympathy with all those orange-flowered Conophytum cultivars nearby

It's good to see even a single Rebutia flower at this dull time of the year, and this is always a pretty species. Thanks for posting.

Individual flowers tend to last longer in dull cool weather, it is hot sun that shortens their lifespan. Though some may not even open fully in dull conditions.

Nocturnal flowers like Echinopsis may only last part of the following day if the day is hot, but may last a few days if it is cool dull weather. Flimsy flowers are a big water loss for desert plants, so they only keep them open long enough for pollination in order to reduce water loss.
