Hi All~

Can anybody tell me if this particular shape of notocactus is rare or readily obtainable in the UK?

Thanks.

It's a crested or cristate form. Not very popular but also not to everybody's liking.

A quick google gives you info like this:

Thankyou Habanerocat, that's very interesting. I will ask if they are likely to have any in.

Does anybody here have any of these notocactus leninhausii f.cristatus themselves or know where I could get one from?

Best Wishes,

Leandra

Hi Leandra, sorry I don't have the cristate form and don't know where you would get one. It looks an attractive plant, good luck.

Cristates are a form of malformed monstrose growth, usually arising in a single individual rather than being able to be propagated in quantity from seed, therefore need to be propagated vegetatively. Often grafting is used to get salealable growth quickly enough for sale, hence the reason they are harder to find and mostly only the more common forms are found on sale.

A quote from the following link, so you could try them:-

"There are several hundred cristate cacti known now, and Stuart Riley of Plantlife nursery in East Sussex seems to turn up new ones every year on his travels."
