Electrical power failure alarm.

Hi everyone,

Last night a fuse tripped and we lost power to our electrical sockets. Fortunately it happened when I was awake so I could reset the fuse box and make sure that the greenhouse heating was ok.

It got me thinking though. Is it possible to get a plug in alarm that gives an audible alert when the power fails? I have a remote thermometer which has a low temp alarm but it isn't very loud and has to be sat on the kitchen windowsill to work (not much use when I'm in bed). If anyone knows of any I would welcome your help. A quick Google seems to suggest mostly intruder alarms and SMS notification services for national grid power failures.

Most computer UPS will have an audible warning and you may be able to set up email and other notifications - not a lot of use if mail etc. is on a machine that has been taken out of course

Hi Mat,

I have been using the following device found on Ebay a few years ago, it's very basic but does the job, have it plugged in near bedside table and because we live in a semi -rural location we do get power cuts as power is via overground cables.

It's saved me a couple of times when I have had to switch the calor heater on when the power went down one night about 03:00 hrs.

I actually wanted a low temperature warning, so a remote sensor, but this might be useful as well. Dirt cheap, so might be rubbish.

I was thinking wow that's a hefty price, I found same as Chris on amazon. Search ebay "power failure alarm" and there is same model (including even cheaper from far east £3.52 inc shipping ! or more expensive with uk dispatch £10.99) Worth a try before raising a mortgage.
