I do not think it is just nitrogen fertilizer because they are tight and compact not big and blousey.

Commercial growers have a carefully prescribed temperature, light, and fertiliser regime which gets plants into market condition in a set time. This produces really healthy-looking plants, but perhaps not the appearance many of us would look for in our plants.
