Sounds like one of them is the first report of a carnivorous cactus!

Best wishes,

Check the back of Tina's cardigan for these, if they were at elk.

Hi Dave
this is old news.
You will of course recall that this was covered in the June 2015 issue of CactusWorld on pages 128-129 together with some photos that the author supplied me with.

Cheers

My memory these days Al does not extend beyond last week, if that far! Years ago are OK, I can probably remember what was in both the American and British journals in those days. Short term memory goes as you get older.

Yes I saw the date 2015, but it often takes a time for new descriptions in the more obscure publications to filter through to general knowledge. Ritter published the genus Chileorebutia in 1959 not knowing Yoshito Ito had already published Thelocephala based on the same type in 1957 in an obscure Japanese publication devoted to insects.

Again Backeberg tried to publish Neochilenia in 1942 not knowing Bullock had published Nichelia in 1938 based on the same type. In fact there are still many who do not know that if you want a genus corresponding to Backeberg's Neochilenia, it has to be called Nichelia.

Hopefully the wall will be built before these six Opuntias can get out of Mexico.
