Thanks for posting these, Chris. You've captured the texture of the flowers very well with the angle of the light.

I was amazed how well they came out. Normally I open the back door, put the plant on the floor, on the velvet sheet, in the sun, but near the shadow caused by the door frame. The camera is then placed at 90 deg to the sun - i.e. the light is crossing the plant L to R or R to L.

Because it was morning the only place I could take the photos was in my bedroom upstairs and the window blind was creating the shadow. The camera, plant and sun were all in a line and I was effectively shooting into the sun, albeit it was well above the camera lens - it wouldn't surprise me if it was 90 deg the other way so to speak.

Certainly an angle I am going to try again......

Are you going to enter these in the May photo competition (subject, May Blossom)? I'm judging it  .

You are certainly getting the best out of your new camera. Great shots, nice and sharp, with good close-ups. Very nice flowers, too.
Obsessive Crassulaceae lover, especially Aeoniums but also grow, Aloes, Agaves, Haworthias and a select number of Cacti.
