Almost missed this

Post by iann »

I'd seen a bud coming, but wasn't home for the scorching Saturday and didn't go in the greenhouse today until late because it was cloudy. Thought there was two flowers, then it was just squashed by the spines, but it appears to be a somewhat cristate flower.

Very nice with the white flower! Did you grow the plant from seed?

I've seen pictures online with white flowers and purple style/stigma, those aren't subikii?

Yes, it is grown from seed. I don't know anything about the anther colour. I don't think var subikii strictly only has white flowers, and I have seen plants with white flowers and labelled with other names, so who knows.
