ID please, a Mammillaria something?

Post by Jackc »

A gift from dad.

This one has nasty fish hook spines, and seems a little unhappy (light yellowish bits).

Can anyone identify? Mammillaria dioica, California fish-hook cactus maybe?

Wow, fairly conclusive!

Is there any set of features that point to it being Zeilmanniana albiflora, or is this most likely this in terms of what is most commonly commercially available?

I'm interested in the process of identification (and obviously got it wrong) so curious...

Also, any idea or advice regarding the white tips / lighter green areas?

Lots of these about in the supermarkets and Woodies type garden centres this summer. I think Zeilmanniana albiflora is as close as your going to get, although it doesn't clump like the red flowering Zeilmanniana of old.

These seem to be easy to grow and are good flowerers.
