Mixing Chemicals

Post by Chris L »

I am always a bit wary of adding chemicals to water in any case but was wondering if it is safe to mix bug killer and plant feed together in one watering.

Chempak 8 and Bug Clear VWK are the things I usually use.

What about adding vinegar as well if needed.

Is it safe to mix them all, or is it better alternate watering? :???: :???: :???: :???:

The insecticide should say in the instructions if it's safe to mix with fertilizers. I didn't find Bug Clear VWK in a search, so no idea what the ingredients are.

VWK is Vine Weevil Killer https://www.lovethegarden.com/file/4950 ... n=2E-01JQe

Seems to be no warning on the label about mixing with other products but it can only be used twice a year so I would apply it on its own and use another watering for applying fertiliser.

Its active ingredient is acetamiprid (a neonicotinoid) according to the links, so it should be fine to use with the Chempak 8 in the proper dilution. But Jim made a good point.

As the saying goes: 'if in doubt, leave out'.

I wouldn't dream of mixing chemicals because if you do, you get another chemical. What's difficult about applying them separately?

Agreed.

Only in comparatively few cases.

The biggest risk might be that something you want in solution precipitates out and sinks to the bottom and stays in your can/sprayer.

Hi Chris ;Don't take the risk, if you lose a few plants it is not worth it, when you can just apply them separately over the next couple of weeks.
and thanks for the plants last week.

Even if you apply them separately - when they're in the soil they'll get mixed together
