13th October

Yes, an excellent look at Keith and Melissa Scott's garden at Crete Lodge near Norwich, http://www.cretelodge.co.uk/
6 minute segment starting from about 45 minutes in.

20th October

I understand that the episode on the 20th will also feature succulents when our distinguished member Terry Smale will be sharing his love of conophytums. The episode summary says, ".... and we go to Surrey to talk to an enthusiast who grows thousands of South African succulents in his back garden in Surrey."
DON'T MISS IT!
(Though many of us will be at the Haworthia Society Convention in Leicester.)

Melissa and Keith are friends of mine - I've had the privilege of seeing the garden grow over 15 years. The article was good but didn't really do it justice - there is just so much going on there. Nevertheless it is great to see them finally get some recognition on national TV.

Yes, I will have to forsake going for a curry with Mr. Baker et al at Leicester next Friday to see what Gardeners' World have done with all the material that they filmed. They visited at what was a peak flowering time for my conophytums with plenty of lithops out too, so they should have good images. The problem is that they were here for 9 hours and all that material is edited down to a five or six minute slot. So apologies in advance for all the errors that could creep in - it wasn't me, honest.

If any of our overseas forumites want to take a look, it should be available on-line for one month after it is broadcast at http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/a-z/g and clicking on "Gardeners' World". This week's programme including the Norfolk outdoor planting mentioned above, should be there at the moment.

I just could not imagine the BBC being interested in mesembs a couple of years ago. It really is a sign of the times that succulents plants are currently enjoying a surge in popularity and they are selling really well at garden centres. So how does the BCSS capitalise on this?

The link above to Terry’s excellent piece on Lithops and Conophytums is now not available.
However you can get it here and it’s well worth another look:-

I stumbled across it the other day on Reddit and it was really good to see. It turns out I have a pot of Terry’s seeds on the go at the moment!

I also set up a Mesemb Study Group community on Reddit the other day under www.reddit.com/r/MesembStudyGroup I emailed the MSG to let them know but haven’t had a reply.

All my plants are kept indoors and I started collecting in August 2018. Favourites are Pachyphytum, Echeveria, Haworthia, Mesembs and oddball Cacti.
