ID Help Again Please

Post by Duns »

I had a trip to a garden centre I had not visited before and as a result ended up buying 8 new plants. I have managed to identify with a reasonable degree of confidence 3 plants however there are 5 that have evaded my severely limited detection skills. I am hoping that the images below will help.

Many thanks for looking.

John

The first two look to be a very hairy Opuntia but I don't know the species name. The third appears to be Tacitus bellus. A member of the Crassulaceae family, which has the most delightful flowers in spring. After that I am not sure.
Here's a picture.
Tacitus bellus.
Tacitus bellus.
Obsessive Crassulaceae lover, especially Aeoniums but also grow, Aloes, Agaves, Haworthias and a select number of Cacti.

Thanks Liz

Yes I thought the first was an Opuntia but looking at the various sources I have at my disposal I could not find any as woolly as this specimen. I have just noticed that since I started this reply Tony R has identified it as Cylindropuntia vestita (cristate form) - many thanks Tony.

Liz the flowers in your image of Tacitus bellus are fantastic - I do so hope that this is what I have (I'm sure your ID is spot on!). Just an aside do you think it is ready for re-potting to the next size pot in the Spring?

Many thanks Liz and Tony

Thanks Iann - that is most helpful.

There is I'm afraid one more that I omitted from my original post and is shown below.

Thanks again

Last one is Echinopsis subdenudata (unless it's a hybrid - it looks a little more spiny than usual).
