Chinese dish

Post by ralphrmartin »

There's always something new to eat each time I go to China. This time it was some kind of Mesem leaves as a salad. Quite refreshing, actually!

Hi Ralph,
I think you might have had Mesembryanthemum crystallinum, commonly 'ice greens' in English or 'bingcai' in Cantonese. Pretty much served from freezer and allowed to defrost before eating. Speciality over there.
Just an idea. Hope you have great Christmas and good growing for 2018.

Not really. While it had salad dressing on it, I would not have said salty.

Maybe. Or even a species of Mesembryanthemum (genus, not family). See above.

Sounds very plausible.

(Bingcai translated literally means ice vegetable).

Merry Xmas to you too!
