The Priscilla Burgoyne ref is just a short caption to a photo. No mention of salt, so that's not it.

The Muiria article that you want is probably the one by Don Smith in MSG Bulletin (2011), 26(1), 12. Don has had great success in raising seed of this species and actually flowered a plant in three years from sowing; a great achievement. His method is to put just a few crystals of table salt around the plants, initially every month and later every two months. I have raised plants successfully without resorting to this but have never flowered them. So maybe there is something in Don's method.
