Strange Spanish succulent?
Hi I picked up this strange creature from a supermarket in Spain. It's survived the journey back to the UK in my handbag but any ideas of the variety/name? Thanks

Re: Strange Spanish succulent?
Certainly Crassula ovata but maybe 'Hobbit' rather than 'Gollum'. The latter has a lot of spatulate leaves, unlike the one pictures which has tubular leaves, with indentations on the end and very few spatulate ends.
Obsessive Crassulaceae lover, especially Aeoniums but also grow, Aloes, Agaves, Haworthias and a select number of Cacti.

Thanks for naming this strange creature. I can now read up on it's needs and dislikes. I think come spring it can go in the greenhouse with everyone else (except the Melocactus & Uebelmannia).
Cheers

You can keep this in greenhouse all year round, as long as it is dry in winter. A sunny spot in summer would suit it outside, as well.

Re: Strange Spanish succulent?
Thanks Liz for the advice. I'm keeping my greenhouse at 6 or 7 degrees at present and as this is my first winter of greenhouse/cactus/succulent ownership, then I hope that's going to be sufficient and i dont lose any plants! Time will tell i guess but its good to know Gollum can go outside with the rest.
Thanks
Thanks

I call this plant with thin leaves Crassula Ovata ‘Lady Fingers’

Yes, that is the third option of names for this Crassula, they are all forms of Crassula ovata.

At that temperature it will be safe to give a little water as these plants do not go dormant during Winter as that is when they flower.
Many names in use for similar plants http://www.crassulaceae.ch/uploads/file ... 0Group.pdf
