I need a couple of id please

Post by KeithG »

I'm not proud of it but I went into Wilco today and came out with a couple of succulents.
I have an idea that this first one may be a Kalanchoe but I'm happy to be wrong............

This second one is in a 3 or 4cm pot. I was drawn to it because of the unusual leaf arrangement............

Hi Keith, I'm no expert, but I agree the first one is a Kalanchoe, I think the second is Crassula falcata. They're nice plants so you have done well.

The Kalanchoe could well be a hybrid. It has both the look of K. diagremontana, and K. blossfeldiana. Nicely coloured, attractive plant, whatever the colour. I'd be interested to see what it looks like if / when it flowers.

As always, thank you for the replies (tu)

The pair only cost four quid so I was happy to buy them unknown and take a punt, The Crassula inparticular looks interesting. Has anyone grown either and got any tips to share?

Crassula falcata (or perfoliata ssp falcata) is straightforward to grow, takes down to freezing quite happily if dry. The leaves can colour up with light and not too much water, and flowers are worth having. I find it can get a bit straggly after a few years and needs re-starting from cuttings.

Just to be clear in my head, that photo is of a "standard" form that has had plenty of light and been kept a bit on the dry side?

Correct, Keith.
If kept under the staging and watered it's just plain blue.
