Web links

Post by Bill »

I am working on a resources section for the website, so I am looking for links to sites of interest:

Free Journals

Online libraries

Nurseries

Sundry supplies

Resource sites ie Joe blogs site on Haworthia

Collections open to the public.

Databases

Membership Organisations

Please tag your suggestions into one or more of these groups.

Given how comprehensively these are covered at https://cactuspro.com/biblio/en:accueil I'd save yourself the time and effort of reinventing that wheel. :shrugs:

Been requested by a very respected none BoT member of the society who did indeed reference that page as the sort of thing he envisaged.

Under Databases, you can put the field number database:
http://www.fieldnos.bcss.org.uk/

I've got a couple of other interesting bits of data on my site, but don't know whether they merit mentioning as resources:
https://www.rrm.me.uk/Cacti/felt.html
https://www.rrm.me.uk/Cacti/Cactus%20an ... linity.pdf

You might care to link my plants for sale/swap, although I am not a Nursery in the usual sense:
https://www.rrm.me.uk/Cacti/forsale.php

I'm willing for people to visit me, but I hesitate to call my collection "Open to the Public". I'd rather say "Open to BCSS members on request" rather than just putting my address out there for all and sundry.

As quite a bit of this shows, the devil is in the details of categories and what is recorded in them, but I applaud the effort to bring it together.

The really tricky part, though, with any web site, is making sure it stays up-to-date. I've seen this with many professional web sites, as well as ones from amateurs.

My Field Number Database is at https://www.fieldnos.bcss.org.uk

Hi,

It would be great if you could add The Essex Succulent Review under Free Journals please. I expect you've seen my notices on the forum when a new issue comes out, and I know quite a few forum members read it.
http://www.essexsucculentreview.org.uk

I inherited the name btw. Mostly it is general articles on all aspects of cacti and succulents.

Thank you

I guess under Free Journals

We could list all the BCSS branches that publish a regular newsletter

Ours from Oxford is at http://www.oxford.bcss.org.uk/oxotica/latest.pdf

There are quite a few others around .......

Also as a National Collection holder like Ralph while not open to the public and I do not want my address on a public web site I am happy to host visits by agreement and have held an open day the past coupe of years in collaboration with the Branch

As a beginner I have found these sites to be very helpful research tools, especially before buying plants or seeds.
